These care and housing requirements outline the minimum requirements for animal welfare in keeping rats and mice. They are adapted from the recommendations of animal ethics boards and are based on decades of scientific studies and empirical evidence. Every breeder and rescue approved by QRF is expected to uphold these standards as a minimum, and this is enforced during inspections and at yearly renewals. Feel free to share the checklists around and use them to make sure your own cages are fulfilling all needs for your animals, they represent a bar for minimum welfare requirements that every rat and mouse owner should be attaining!
